Author Joseph Minardi will present an illustrated presentation about his newly published book Historic Architecture in Philadelphia: East Falls, Manayunk, and Roxborough (Schiffer, Jan. 2014) at the Falls of Schuylkill Library on Wednesday evening, February 26, at 6:30 pm.
This free program is co-sponsored by the East Falls Historical Society and the Friends of Falls of Schuylkill Library.
This lavish photographic book, focusing on three dynamic neighborhoods in Philadelphia’s 21st ward, traces the evolution of each community as defined by its architecture. East Falls, with its outstanding Tudor Historic District and elegant homes, is considered a “must-see” neighborhood for connoisseurs of fine domestic architecture. Manayunk, once known as the “Manchester of America” still retains its European hill town character and Roxborough has its own unique architectural profile, featuring residences of the Victorian era.
The book has nearly 500 full color photographs and archival images and, according to Schiffer, will “charm history buffs, lovers of vintage architecture, and Philadelphia enthusiasts.”
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at a discounted price from the $50 list price.
Mr. Minardi is an award-winning photographer and a recipient of the 2007 Preservation Initiative Award from the University City Historical Society, where he serves as a Board member and newsletter editor. This is Mr. Minardi’s third book on historic architecture in the city of Philadelphia.
